Bio

Matthew works in drawing, collage, sculpture and installation. He is a 2017 Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Recipient and holds an MFA in Visual Art from California State University, Long Beach (2011).

Matthew received his BA from Williams College in 2004 and grew up northern New Jersey. He lives and works in rural Pine Island, MN.

Matthew teaches as adjunct faculty at Riverland Community College, Winona State University and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Matthew’s work deals with strategies of abstraction; representation of landscape and architecture in art; the interaction of positive and negative form; the interaction of pictorial and physical space; and the relationship of an artwork’s form to light, shadow, and architectural space.
