Matthew Winkler works in mixed media drawing, collage, sculpture and installation. He holds an MFA in Visual Art from California State University, Long Beach (2011) and a BA from Williams College (2004).
Matthew grew up in northern New Jersey and currently lives and works in Pine Island, MN where he makes art in a converted early 20th c. granary.
His work deals with strategies of abstraction; representation of place; light and shadow in relationship to positive and negative shape; contrasts between pictorial and perceptual space; and the act of accumulation and removal.
Matthew teaches as adjunct faculty at Riverland Community College, Winona State University and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
